Client

PMZ Electrics

PMZ electrics is a Melbourne based business with 12 years' experience in the electrical industry and takes pride in maintaining a high level of electrical expertise, staying up to date with new technology and offering a friendly and reliable service.

Challenge

PMZ Electrics decided to update their website as their current product was unfinished with links not working, the composition lacking structure and providing a poor experience for users.

Solution

RG Designs developed a website that was functional and easy to use. I provided a better customer journey including a quote form feature and clear layout of services including an emphasis on strata management as this service is more profitable for the client than domestic jobs.

Key Findings (interviews)

Existing website

  • Website was ok. Redesign is required to bring a professional look for the company

  • Improvement on layout

  • More images and extra detail

  • Icons on home image were not links, user assumed they were

  • Work section needs to display larger images

  • Service section had a lot of content no images to break it up

  • For each page maybe put an image with the title of the page

  • Blog section found it confusing wasn’t sure about the text in light grey and only one image was displayed

Personas

Based on the user research (interviews) I conducted, I‘ve formed 2 personas that best describe the demographics of PMZ Electrics target market. I referred to them throughout the entire product development process.

The information about each persona allowed me to focus on the people’s goals and frustrations when designing the product.

Ideation

I sketched multiple ideas to ensure I design the best solution that meets PMZ Electrics business goals, which is a clear display of their services including an emphasis on strata management as this service is more profitable for the client than domestic jobs.

Customer Journey map

Leveraging on my research on customers' needs, wants and expectations, the customer Journey map represents the future PMZ Electrics guide to identifying who they are and what services they provide.

Usability Testing

Low-fidelity Wireframes:

I turned my revised sketches into a black and white interactive prototype done with Sketch. I clearly defined the UI elements, design patterns to test the prototype on users in-person to gather feedback on the usability of the product.

Findings:

  • Users liked the services clearly shown first with imagery and then text.

  • Users had different opinions of how the gallery should be laid out.

    1. Images should be laid out like a gallery so no clicking is involved just scrolling down the page.

    2. They liked the option of a provided scrolling animation and the option to click through the photos.

  • Some users thought that maybe moving up the feature of (request a free quote) after services and some thought it made sense coming after testimonials.

Design solutions:

  • After carefully consideration on feedback and discussions with the Director we’ve kept the original position of (request a free quote) which is after testimonials.

  • Images have been kept as a slide show preview with arrows to prevent users scrolling down the page.
